BURNING

A tribute to all World War I pilots. Pictured here is a Fokker Dr I Triplane flown by Manfred Von Richtofen better known as the Red Baron. He shot down 80 planes before being shot down by Canadian Pilot Roy Brown though there was some dispute over whether he was killed by ground fire. WWI Fighter Pilots did not wear parachutes because it was thought they would bail out at the first sign of combat. I read that one pilot carried a pistol so he could end his life in the event his plane caught fire to avoid being burned alive on his way to the ground. messed up huh?
